Council has eleven Reserve and Hall Subcommittees that work with the Council to manage the many reserves and halls in our district. 

We seek expressions of interest for the below: 

• Carters Beach Reserve and Hall
• Inangahua Junction Reserve and Hall 
• Karamea Reserve 
• Little Wanganui Reserve and Hall 
• Mokihinui Reserve and Hall 
• Ngakawau-Hector Reserve 
• Omau Reserve 
• Reefton Reserve 
• Seddonville Reserve 
• Springs-Junction Maruia Reserve and Hall 
• Waimangaroa Reserve and Hall 
• Creative Communities 

The expressions of interest will be reviewed by the Group Manager Community Services and the Chair and Deputy Chair of the Community Committee, then confirmed by the Community Committee at its September 2026 meeting.

The Terms of Reference for the Reserve and Hall Subcommittees and the Creative Communities Subcommittee outline the roles, responsibilities, Council’s duties and the delegated powers.   

The development of Reserve Management Plans for each reserve, in partnership with each subcommittee is underway. This will assist the subcommittees in their future financial planning and identification of projects. 

The subcommittees were not disestablished as part of the end of the last triennium, instead they have been allowed to remain, and expressions of interest are being sought from members of the public to attract new members to the subcommittees.

The Creative Communities Subcommittee manages administration of the Creative Communities funding scheme locally. This scheme aims to increase participation in the arts at a local level and increase the range and diversity of arts available to communities. It is a partnership between Creative New Zealand and local authorities, with each local authority responsible for delivering the scheme in its area. The Creative Communities Subcommittee assesses applications and makes decisions about the funding received annually from Creative New Zealand.    

A panel, including the Group Manager Community Services, and Chair and Deputy Chair of the Community Committee will review the expressions of interest for each subcommittee.

Expressions of interest for the Creative Communities Subcommittee expressions will be reviewed first by the Creative Communities Subcommittee, before new members are formally appointed by the Community Committee.

After considering all expressions of interest, the Community Committee will appoint its new members in September 2026.
