How well can you self-evacuate in a flood?
West Coast Emergency Management, along with Resilient Westport, is seeking more information on how well the Westport community is prepared in the event of a flood-related evacuation.
We’re developing an enhanced flood evacuation response plan for Westport, Carters Beach and Snodgrass Road.
We've had a lot of conversations with those at the core of emergency management but it’s the wider voice of the community the team would like to hear now.
We'd love as many members of the local community as possible to complete our quick survey on their readiness to evacuate if there was the risk of a major flooding emergency.
We are running a survey from 9am Friday 17 October until 4.30pm on Friday 7 November 2025.
By filling out this quick survey, residents are playing a crucial role in making greater Westport safer and more resilient. Planning saves lives - if people share their evacuation needs with us, it helps us all plan better.
You can complete the survey here or if online isn't your thing there will be paper surveys and copies of the Frequently Asked Questions at the Buller District Council Westport service centre or the Sue Thomson Casey Memorial Library in Westport.
Residents can also drop into the regular Tuesday Resilient Westport community drop-in sessions (12-2pm) at 147 Palmerston Street for more information.
